Bio:

Laura Rivers Andrews is a mixed media artist from Texas currently attending Baylor University (graduating in 2027) where she will receive her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting. Her work takes elements of fiber, paint, and lens-based media to create imagery depicting glitching as a metaphor for the space between reality and imagination, suggesting that both an internal world and reality can exist simultaneously. Combining digital and physical architecture and landscapes, she creates a space that feels familiar but is altered to reflect reality versus creative self-regulation and how both occur simultaneously.

Statement:

Using embroidery methods, she stitches patterns that represent glitching in the colors representing RGB along with impasto layers of paint; she creates an abstract representation of glitching. She uses paint and fiber to reintroduce a human element to the dehumanizing technological world that is being built around our current society. Inspired by cyberpunk art and glitch art, Laura Rivers creates imagery that focuses on creative self-regulation. She combines buildings and landscapes, real and digital, creating a new place that though not quite right is an escape from the real world. The figural and world building aspect of her work represents how humanity has become trapped in a world of technology while her portraits reveal the inner emotions of dealing with the world around us.
